ABOUT ABOUT

A great evening of music for a great cause! All proceeds benefit the Margaret A Hart Scholarship fund.

This annual concert honors the legacy of Margaret A. Hart ’35, the first student of color to graduate from MCLA, then known as the North Adams Normal School. Hart went on to earn a Masters Degree from Columbia Teachers College and had a long career in the Berkshires as an educator.

Rising alternative pop singer, DEQN Sue describes her music as “socially conscious, alternative pop, and cites her influences as Chaka Khan, David Bowie, Queen and the avant-garde visual artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.”

She creates with Grammy-nominated producer Kelvin Wooten (Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, EWF, The Bee Gees and others). Her songs combine pop, jazz, R and B, hip-hop, rock, funk and gospel. This cross-genre singer songwriter – who splits her time between Alabama and California – has been recognized by Essence, Aftopunk and NPR Music, and many others.
